We define competitive advantage as an advantage over rivals picked up by providing more
influential value to consumers, either by means of lower-cost approaches or by offering more
notable benefits and an administration which legitimizes greater expenses.
Porter suggested four "non-exclusive" strategic plans to improve competitive advantage. The
strategies associated with the extent to which the activities of a business are confined versus
expansive, and the extent to which a company attempts to distinguish its products.
The strategies proposed by Porter to achieve competitive advantage are listed below:
The differentiation and cost leadership approaches are searching for competitive advantage in
a wide range of portions of the business or sector. Paradoxically, in a limited market or
sector, differentiation emphasis and cost-focus approaches are adopted.
Cost leadership: With this approach, the goal is to become the company's lowest-cost
producer. To achieve this goal, the traditional approach is to create a huge area that
empowers the company to exploit economies of scale.
Differentiation focus: A company aims to distinguish either one or a few objective portions of
