Description

In this activity, you will select and critically review a peer-reviewed scholarly journal article which is associated with Human Factors and/or Ergonomics.

Use the following guidelines:

  • Objectives: What does the article set out to do?
  • Theory: Is there an explicit theoretical framework? If not, are there important theoretical assumptions?
  • Concepts: What are the central concepts and are they clearly defined?
  • Argument: Are there specific hypotheses?
  • Method: What methods were employed to support the hypotheses?
  • Evidence: What evidence was used to support the findings?
  • Values: Are value positions clear or are they implicit?
  • Literature: How can or does the work impact industry?
  • Contribution: How well does the research advance human factors and/or ergonomic knowledge?

HUMAN FACTORS AND ERGONOMIC PRINCIPLES
Ergonomics to begin with, also referred to as human factors, is a scientific discipline aimed
at analyzing the relations between human beings and other components belonging to a system by
incorporating theoretical principles (Attaianese & Duca, 2011), data and other approaches to
enhance human experience overall performance of a system. Existing explanations about
ergonomics mostly give out similar issues as any type of system, and as much as a building with
a poor design will affect the entire physical and the organization’s features on ergonomics, there
is still lack of an effective procedure to develop a design for ergonomic buildings. The article aims
at coming up with an introductory survey on the principles guided by ergonomics, including their
function in the architectural design process, so as to develop a design methodology to assist
building designers in creating working and living that suite human needs.
Attaianese & Duca (2011) stress that active involvement of end users is a fundamental
element in ergonomics. The involvement of users in workplaces refers to the use of participative
measures alongside the interv...
