In circuit switiching devices need establish a dedicated channel or circuit before the users
can actually communicate to each other via a call. In circuit switching the channel used is kept
reserved always so that it can be used by the two users to communicate. Connections in circuit
switching are categorized as either half or full duplex. In half duplex only one channel is
allocated for communication, while for full duplex two channels are used for communications.
Circuit switching is commonly used in telephone systems, whereby, if a phone is picked, the
connection is established and the conversation can begin (Chen & Zhao, 2005).
One of the advantages of circuit switching is that it is able to decrease the amount of
delay between the two users during or before a call, so that the callers can enjoy the experience.
