Background History
In Phillip White v. two Denver officers, the plaintiff, Philip White, sued two Denver
police Officer. On 2012 May 22, Phillip was at the downtown station at Greyhound Bus
Terminal (Nicholson, 2016). He had attended a conference at Denver on technical advancements
that can help blind people improve their conduct of things. Now, he was taking a bus at this
terminal to go back to Vail and subsequently to Eagle. However, the bus operators at the
downtown station informed Phillip that the bus was full and this he had to wait for another bus.
Philip was not contented. In this regard, he engaged the bus staffers on other available options
that he could use to get to Vail (Nicholson, 2016). However, the security guards at the station
dismissed him, saying that what he was doing was trespassing. They ordered him to leave the
station or else they call the police. Nonetheless, Philip did not comply with their orders. Instead,
he called police on 911, asking them how they could help him. As a result, the security guards
called the police. Chafin and Wyckoff were the responding police officers. When they arrived,
they found Philip talking on a phone. After telling him that he was the police, Philip requested to
touch the officer’s budge to verify whether he was an officer (Kovaleski, 2016). However,
Chafin refused. He went ahead to wrench Philip’s arms. Then, he pushed him forward. As a
result, Philip’s head slammed into a ticket counter. He suffered an injury on his head and bled.
Nevertheless, Philip was handcuffed, and he was taken to Denver jail. He was later released
without any charge. This is what prompted Philip to go to sue the two Denver...
