Description

EWRT 1A , weekly discussion one original post and five reflection on others posts

One original post

Please create an original post that is ONE solid paragraph, with a clear topic sentence, at least three body sentences, and one or two concluding sentences. Remember that we are practicing paragraph structure as much as we can in this class! Also be sure to look at your

Follow these steps to complete the assignment:

1. You are required to leave your phone behind for ONE HOUR. You can go for a walk, hike, or simply sit outside by yourself. This needs to be time by yourself, without your technology/ phone/ iPad/ computer, etc.

2. Use this time to relax and reflect on your studies this quarter. How did the quarter go so far for you? In all your classes, and in this English class, how did you grow as a student? How is your writing now? (I learned o a lot in this english class, have to be patient to grow,my writing got lots of improvement)

3. You can take a few handwritten notes while reflecting, or you can take down some notes after the end of your one hour of solitude and reflection.

The discussion prompt is: Tell us about your reflections-- you don't have to discuss everything you reflected on; you can focus on one thing. Write one organized paragraph as your original post. Proofread it.

To earn full points, you must reply to four other students, writing at least three-sentence replies (your replies don't need to be complete paragraphs). Also be sure to proofread your work for typos, grammar, and spelling.

These are some examples for the original post:

1. For this week's last classwide talk, the teacher instructed me to leave my phone for an hour and let me reflect on my studies for this quarter. This quarter is my second quarter since I arrived at De Anza College. I remembered I started my Fall '19 quite easy and a breeze. I didn't feel the pressure on me, not until this quarter that I felt stressed and pressured. This quarter became my first challenge since arriving at De Anza College. Primary classes are not easy, and since most of them require a lot of reading and deadlines on the same day and time, it's wasn't easy for me to juggle and finish everything before the due date. Nevertheless, I find the workload manageable, and also, as a freshly new student of the college, I became very responsible, hardworking, and aware of my studies. I am willing to go through high waters to transfer to my dream school. I grew so much and wasn't the same student as before anymore.

2. For the last classwide discussion, we are once again required to spend one hour without our cellphones, electronics devices, or any technology, etc. However, this time, we need to utilize this one hour to reflect on not only the English writing class but also the courses I take. For me, the time we spend in this quarter is quite fast and hasty due to inevitable factor- coronavirus. However, I have still learned many lessons from this quarter. First and foremost, the time arrangement/ management skill is a skill that I have rapidly improved during this quarter. This quarter is more intense and faster than the previous quarter, therefore I need to arrange and manage my time every day, write down my schedule of the week, and make a to-do list for each week to avoid missing doing the assignments and quizzes. In addition to time arrangement/ management skills, I have learned numerous writing skills, such as how to paraphrase, how to use comma appropriately, avoid utilizing too much adverb, be aware of wordiness, etc. The English writing skills I learned from this class enrich my essays little by little. Among these writing skills, I think the usage of the comma is the biggest improvement as I understand thoroughly about every comma rules. The “ Extended Rules for Comma” the professor posted is really useful, and it indeed solves all my confusion regarding comma usage. Through this quarter, I have become a person who can arrange my schedule wisely.

3. Within the hour of no technology, I sat at home reflecting how I improved this quarter and how my experience was as well. During this quarter, I have learned a lot as a student. In the first week of this quarter, I was scared to be dropped out because I wasn't online for at least 4 hours. I never took an online class and I personally don't like taking online classes either, because I can't learn anything if there is nobody to teach it to me in person. With this in mind, after the first week was over, I got myself to be back on track in the assignments and I was continuing to do everything that was needed every week to get the points. I enjoyed Classwide Talks and Essays we did because it helped me as a person, to grow and develop new ideas. I find myself to be a lot better in writing essays because, in high school, English was my least favorite subject. I always found myself suffering in English especially writing essays because I just didn't understand what the point was in writing essays and how to connect to the story. Thanks to Professor Giardino, I improved as a student in writing essays and I think I can improve better in the future as well.

Five Reflection On Others Posts:

Write one paragraph for each reflection, there are five reflection in total

writing requirment

1. Each post MUST BE three or more sentences. This includes your posts in response to other student posts.

2. Each post must be detailed. It is not enough to simply write, "I agree with you" or "I like your idea." You must say WHY you agree or like someone's ideas.

3. Write in complete, standard English sentences. Do not "text." Poorly written posts will not be considered for a grade.

4. If you disagree with someone's post, politely do so. Explain why you disagree with facts and details.

5. If you agree with someone, build on the ideas.

6. You can reply to someone who had replied to your original post; this will count as another of your required postings for the assignment.

7. Be kind, respectful, and curious toward other students.

8. The instructor reserves the right to delete any post that is offensive, intolerant, or not sufficiently academic for a college-level course.

Please reapply these four reflection:

1. Krissha: " For this week's last classwide talk, the teacher instructed me to leave my phone for an hour and let me reflect on my studies for this quarter. This quarter is my second quarter since I arrived at De Anza College. I remembered I started my Fall '19 quite easy and a breeze. I am willing to go through high waters to transfer to my dream school. I grew so much and wasn't the same student as before anymore."

Example of reflection :

Hi,Krissha

Thank you very much for sharing, what you said makes sense. I feel the same. The hardest part of this semester is the problem of reading volume. Reading 3 books and publishing the post-reading feeling is a lot of work for those who love reading, not to mention those who do n’t like reading. It was a torture, but fortunately, we persisted together.

2. Zekai Wu:"I am very sad that this is the last week of this course, but I am relieved. Sad because of the end of the course and the new partners I just met in the course. The good news is that an important course is about to be completed so that you can go further than your goals. This weekend, I left all my electronics and walked in the park. The situation is very tense today, the world is outbreak of virus, many people are infected and many people die. As a result, many schools were closed, students took online lessons at home, and people rushed to buy goods from supermarkets. There are fewer and fewer people in the park. Without the excitement of the past, everyone may be struggling to fight the virus. I hope the world will become better and better.I also thank my teacher for teaching me many writing skills. For example, the most commonly used MLA format is what we have been learning and using.

Example of reflection :

Hi Zekai,

Thank you for sharing! I am also relieved this quarter went by well. Im excited to finish this quarter making it one step down to my goals. Im glad you took this time to take a stroll in the park. The current situation throughout the world is quite sad and I hope the world becomes better soon. I hope the last two weeks of the quarter goes well for you!

3. Sandeep Chahal :" On this break away from technology, I decided to go sit outside and reflect. Sitting there for quite a while I began realizing so much. I’ve noticed I haven't really given myself the time to just relax and be away from work. Most of the time I find myself being focused on school and stressing to finish work. At times, I felt a bit overwhelmed with the workload in all my classes, and I found that taking breaks can be very helpful. Overall I would say this quarter has been great; I have learned so much from my classes that I believe will be helpful for the future. From this class in specific, I believe it has helped me grow as a student. When it came to writing essays, grammar has always been a struggle for me. Learning how to improve my writing and how to fix grammatical mistakes has really helped me. I can definitely take into account what we have learned from this class to other classes in the future and I believe this is very beneficial.

Example of reflection :

Hi Shandeep,

I'm very sorry to hear that you're having a hard time in some of your classes. Similar to your situation, I, too, was a bit overwhelemed by the amount of workload given to me every week, but with time management we can get through this. But, I am also very glad that you enjoyed Professor Giardino's class this quarter. I am also grateful to have you as my classmate. Don't stress too much and take care of yourself too, Shandeep.

4. Ping Hsuan Wang:"

"For the last assignment in this class, I get to have a chance to reflect on what I have done for the winter quarter. At the beginning of the winter quarter, I had a lot of worries since I am taking a lot of major courses, and I was afraid that I could not handle them all. However, I am glad that I have friends taking classes with me and help me to work through some difficulties. Focusing on this class, I am beyond happy to have learned a lot of writing skills from every week’s assignment. Furthermore, I love spending time reading other students’ comments and reflection and get to interact with my classmates. Due to the ongoing virus, no one knows what exactly is going to happen in the next quarter. However, I will be missing this class a lot! I will apply everything I get from this class to my future work! "

Example of reflection :

Hi Ping,

I understand that I can be very stressful sometimes to deal with more rigorous classes here at De Anza. Hi also and taking a few courses that I find are challenging and just being able to work through them shows me and hopefully you as well that we are capable to achieve success. I hope that you can finish out this quarter strong!

5. Ruby Warya:"Within the hour of no technology, I sat at home reflecting how I improved this quarter and how my experience was as well. During this quarter, I have learned a lot as a student. Main Post
This week, we were compelled to leave our smartphones and any other gadget behind for
one hour and use that moment to reflect on our studies in this quarter. It was a great experience
and one of a kind. I took a walk through our garden in that one hour, and it was terrific. It has
been a good quarter so far, and I have enjoyed every bit of it. I would assert that I have grown
well in all classes since I have learned new concepts almost in all classes. The class discussions
in all classes have been amazing and useful in that I have used them to remind myself of
everything we have covered in every class. The English cl...
