Since the manufacturing motor vehicle is a processing activity, process costing is the method used by the ford company to account for inputs and the outputs of the company. The process costing accounts for manufacturing including mass production which may involve different process e.g. the process of manufacturing small ford vehicles may differ from the process of manufacturing tractors and graders (Cardinaels, 2018). To account for profit the company takes the total cost of production process divided by the expected outputs into units that are; cost per unit=cost of inputs divided expected outputs in units. The reason that the company uses the process is that first, it can account for every process of the final product which allows the company to impose the appropriate price of the product this avoiding loss. Secondly it the ford company owners allocate the cost of the produced products on the base of several processes that the product goes through which allows the imposition of average price on the product. Thirdly it involves less clerk work than job costing thus making it less expensive. The other reason for choosing the method is because the allocation of expenses is easily made and cost in every process is accurately determined. Lastly, it facilitates easy managerial control since accurate cost record are maintained which produce perfect cost report which helps in maximizing profits However the job order costing may also apply in the company since some of the customers may order the production of a given type of product.
