Third-party logistics firms are organizations contracted by businesses for their various needs
such as management and movement of resources. The term logistics refers to all supply chain
management needs of a firm which include; implementation, planning, and control of the flow of
goods and services for better customer satisfaction. Some categories of logistic services are;
transportation, warehousing, production, and operations. This practice has been embraced by various
companies globally, with 80% of the 500 fortune companies adopting it. There are four categories of
third party logistics which include; standard third party logistics provider, service developer,
customer adapter and customer developer (Zacharia, Sanders & Nix, 2011).
Standard third party companies offer small scale and a wide range of services to businesses
such as distribution, warehousing pick up and packing. On the other hand, service developers are
firms that are well endowed with technology and provide advanced services such as; tracking,
custom security and cross-docking. Customer adapters serve small companies by taking full charge
of the business's logistics hence leading to quality service provision. Finally, customer developers
take full charge of the client's logistics and carefully integrate themselves to the client company. The
two third-party logistics embraced by small scale businesses are; standard and customer adapters
while large scale organizations adopt service and customer developers (Zacharia et al, 2011).
The first two parties are single service providers and second-party providers which makes the
third party be referred to third party logistics. Usually, the single party services are confined in a
