We often say leadership involves influencing organized groups toward goals. Do you see any disadvantages to restricting the definition to organized groups? If so, what are they?

Yes, its basically claims that if your employee/follower/department is dysfunctional, you're exempt from the statue of "organized group', thus, cannot be motivated and/or influenced, which is obviously not true, yet, perceived given the scenario of this statement.
