THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY PHIL 1600.2 SUGGESTED PAPER TOPICS Term papers should be between 4-6 pages long, typed in J2-point font, and double-spaced. When you quote from a text, simply provide the author's name and the relevant page number in parentheses after the quote--e.g. (Hurka, p. 43). Ifyou only cite Thomas Hurka 's book, or any ofour course-pack readings, no bibliography is necessary. Ifyou cite other works that we have not discussed in class, please provide a bibliography (this does not require a separate sheet). I expect all papers to make ample use of the material we have discussed in class, whether Hurka 's book or one or more of the course-pack selections. The best papers are well-organized, critical (i.e., independent-minded) discussions that avoid repetition, slovenliness, and editorializing (i.e., spewing your opinions without any reasoned support). Papers are due in my office (McNally North 532) on Wednesday, April B'h, by 4:00 p.m. Out offairness to all of those who are working under pressure but still manage to get their papers in on time, late papers will be penalized one grade level per day (e.g., from a B+ to a B, a B to a B-, and so on) to a maximum of three days, after which I will NOT accept them. Ifyou have an idea for a paper that does not appear on this list, make sure to clear it with me before proceeding. Cases ofplagiarism will be dealt with severely. Accomplishment, intelligence, and spiritual honesty are other manifestations of human
principles. Although we do not picture a pleasant existence without enjoyment, beyond fun,
there are these other ideals. It is an integral part of a healthy life. He then distinguishes between
two forms of pleasures: pleasures relating to aboutness and pleasures relating to breadth or
extension. Pleasures involving extension have cross cutting divisions. Each pleasure that we
encounter is a complicated feeling, mixing enjoyment with the characteristics of the good stuff–

your own, but you will still be with someone else. When it is "pleasure," so our enjoyment is
aimed at something in the universe (Pickavé, 2018). All joy calls for a conscious mind. Animals
can have basic physical pleasures, but the Mets cannot love that since they cannot remember that
the Mets won.
Within a particular section of the body, specific satisfaction is always found. For starters,
the taste is only in the mouth. Simple pains are often located — dolor in an intestine, painful in
the mouth, among others. Moreover, all these various specific pleasures and pains may be mixed
concurrently with a subtle dimension of consciousness. We should equate simple pleasures like
