Introduction
A majority of e-commerce customers rely on web browsers to access the internet when
checking their financial data. These web browsers have helped ease the online experience
through innovative advances that have enhanced usability and ubiquity. Features that make the
browsers user-friendly include saving user credentials, recording user browsing history, and
using cookies to engage users. However, at the same time, these browsers betray their users
using the very same options that are intended to make their life easier. Cybercriminals use
available user data such as location, working hours, habits, bank information, and account
passwords to infiltrate customers’ ordinary lives (Herschel, 2020). Cybercriminals build a web
dossier on the browsers that help them mine user financial data that is stored in their web
browsers. There is huge financial data risk if the situation is not resolved because cybercrime
affects both individual and global economic growth. This paper explains how our organization’s
web browsers can be secured so that criminals are not able to access personal data belonging to
customers. The paper also discusses the different data types that can be accessed by these
criminals and, finally, gives details on the best practices to be adopted to stop hackers from
accessing customer data.
