Answer to Question 1
I worked in an organization that values performance for individuals to get promotions
and achievements to meet goals. A conflict occurred between a colleague and our boss due to
project proposals. The supervisor felt that he has the experience and can correct employees on
issues related to that particular project, especially recommendations. However, the employee in
charge of the project and with in-depth understanding did not want to consider rules from the
supervisor. Therefore, he avoided him. A conflict arises between the two, and by all means, the
employee is right about the stand that he has taken, yet the manager fails to reduce his ego
(University of Notre Dame, 2019). Consequently, both can use different conflict resolution
approaches to address the problem. For instance, the employee can use diffusion to manage the
conflict that involves his mistreatment.
Diffusion in conflict management entails one delaying their decisions or postponing and
remaining calm. However, no resolution occurs and only used to stall decisions on the way
forward to allow for tempers to cool. In this case, the employee decides to calm and let the
manager think about his ego, but the issue remains. Secondly, avoidance occurs if the employee
withdraws as he did by vacating or removing physical and ensuring that he does not come into
contact with the supervisor (Habas, 2019).
Further, the employee suppressed the conflict as an avoidance measure. Avoidance may
appear to be accommodating to avoid conflicts. Thirdly, the conflict in this situation may also
entail confrontation where parties may have to either negotiate...
