Describe the UAVs and how they operate
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are a type of aircraft that can fly with the absence of onboard
of pilots. Unmanned aerial vehicles systems are made up of various components such as ground
control stations and sensor payloads. UAVs can be controlled by either from the ground by
control equipment or onboard electronic equipment (Neubauer, 2007). UAVs controlled from the
ground is called a remotely piloted vehicle which needs reliable wireless communication to
operate. Large UAVs require dedicated control systems that can be mounted aboard vehicles to
allow proximity limited by factors such as communication and range.
UAVs are made of light materials that raise their maneuverability and reduces weight. These
materials are highly complex and absorb vibrations hence reducing the sound produced. This
material also enables military UAVs to fly at extremely high altitudes. UAVs are equipped with
various technology systems such as GPS and infrared cameras. UAVs have two parts, control
system and the drone itself. All the navigational systems and sensors are found in the nose of the
unmanned aerial vehicle.
Unmanned aerial vehicles are often used for tactical planning and observation. They are
classified based on weight, endurance and altitude range. The smallest type of unmanned aerial
vehicles is equipped with a ground-control station which has small components such as laptop
computers that could be easily carried. Unmanned aerial vehicles are fitted with cameras with
high precision which can navigate the area observed, take some pictures and enable the users to
carry out structural and image analysis. Unmanned aerial vehicles that can fly at high altitudes
and are suitable to be used for outdoor activities can be used to analyze the effects of a disaster
on a specific area.

Unmanned aerial vehicles used for military services have enhanced safety and efficiency which
helps them to operate in the absence of pilot on board and with various autonomy levels. Various
unmanned aerial vehicles can travel different distances and heights. UAVs with close-range can
fly up to three miles and has a 30-mile range. Unmanned aerial vehicles with short-range fly up
to 90 miles. UAVs with a mid-range fly for up to 400 miles and UAVs with the longest range fly
up to 3,000 feet in the air.
Discuss the advantages of using UAVs
Unmanned aerial vehicles are excellent for taking high-quality aerial imaging and videos and
collecting a large amount of data on imaging. These high-quality images can be used to produce
3-D maps and models which can be used by disaster teams to prepare themselves against attack
