Answer
Animism involves believing that objects have life-like qualities and can perform actions.
Piaget’s idea of Animism is that the world of nature is living as far as the pre-operational child is
concerned. For instance, a child will assume that it is because the stars are happy that they
twinkle at night in the sky. Again, a child thinks that the teddy bear is alive and would get lonely
if left alone or would keep a loved one company if the child lets him have it. Egocentrism, on the
other hand, is when the child cannot distinguish that they have different perspectives from others.
As such, the child will stick to his/her perspective and ignore that others view the same thing
differently. The child portrays egocentrism through communication and ideas that are their own.
According to them, all people feel, see, and hear what the child feels, sees, or hears. For instance,
if the child loves her teddy bear, she believes that her mother loves it too. If chocolate is good
according to her then it is good as far as all other people as far as she is concerned.
