Most employers have been expecting their employees to work for long hours without
realizing its effect on the mental health of their employees. In most organizations, the normal
working hours weekly should be between 35 to 40 hours. This implies that expecting the
employees to work for more than 40 hours weekly is overworking them and this may expose
them to various mental health risks, specifically cognitive disorders. Approximately nearly half
population of the US employees to work for more than 50 hours weekly. Reflecting on the
standard working hours in the context of the US, one will realize that such employees have been
subjected to long hours which is risky for their health. With the focus on the mental health
impact by long working hours, one learns that employees who work for long hours are are most
likely to experience some mental disorders like depression and their associated symptoms
(Huodmont and Randall, 2016). To gain a better understanding about the impact of working for
long hours on the mental health states of the employees, this standard term paper presents an
analysis of the scholar sources that focuses on the subject matter.
Scholar Sources Synthesis and Overview Discussion
In their study, Huodmont and Randall (2016) attempted to explore the connection
between common mental disorders among the English police officers and working hours. The
article seemed to provide thoughtful information, though the authors felt that the evidence
