1. Most significant Changes in Africa During the 19th Century
Africa experienced a lot of significant changes in the 19th Century. In the late 18th
Century, the supply of slaves from Africa for American plantations was dominant. The supply of
the salves in the 19th Century was cut short as a result of the anti-slave trade legislation. The
slave trade was replaced by commodity exports. At the same period, the colonial rule over Africa
led to an increase of commodity export facilitating economic growth. Some of the changes
included railways construction, increased European investment and importantly, the operation of
land and labor markets. With the abolishment of slavery in the 19th Century, Africa enjoyed the
industrial revolution as well as the trade boom.

new manufacturers, cash crops and raw materials. Generally, during the 19th Century,
commodity exports increased to include raw materials such as tobacco, tea and coffee, among
others. More importantly, the industrial revolution led to increased technological innovations
during that period.
Another significant change that occurred in the 19th Century was an increase in African
trade. It was during this period that African countries comprehended the commercial trade and
made it possible to trade with other countries (Frankema, 2015). As a result, during the 19th
Century, there was a rapid increase in barter trade for African countries. The trade terms tripled
