Erick Erickson’s theory of personality development draws its foundation largely from
Freud’s psychosexual theory

Erick Erickson, a German stage theorist, changed Freud's psychosexual theory into his
theory of personality development divided into eight stages. It focuses on creating a fruitful and
whole individual through the resolution of different conflicts in the different stages in his theory.
Erickson clarifies human growth and development in a specific way, which enhances people's
knowledge on the same issue. In many instances, it gives people the ability to rediscover
themselves, identifying the different struggles that they pass through in their development and
how their different characters, and finally, personality is formed (Scheck, 2014). The theory of
personality development is also known as the psychosocial theory of development, which allows
people to understand the social interaction between individuals and their growth. The idea of the
theory is to create awareness on how the resolution of different conflicts through growth can
result in the formation of different qualities that support unique personalities for each individual.
People can understand the effects of both the growth and development of both their social
