Mr Grant starts the chapter making the audience remember that the word genre holds at
least three primary connotations: first, it denotes a specific style of film creation; next, it is an
expedient user index proclaiming the nature of substance to be anticipated within a particular
film; and thirdly, it is a decisive idea that maps out the classification of the universal movie
generally. After that the author goes on to explore the word on the general system level - the
relationship of distinct genres to one another and Hollywood creation at large -, individual genres
describing individual genres and their common features, and distinct films, that is reading
particular movies within their generic background.
