Homelessness refers to the state of adopting housing that is below the
minimum standards or lacking secure tenure. Globally, people are involved in being homeless if
they are; residing in the streets; shift between temporary shelters, including friends' homes,
family accommodation, living in boarded houses without security tenure. In the United States
studies, homelessness includes people who live in private or public places, which are not
designed for regular sleeping accommodation for humans.
In most cases, people who are not in a position to secure suitable housing suffer from reduced
income or unsteady flow of income—poverty results in homelessness. In 2005, there was an
estimation of a hundred million people globally who were homeless and almost one billion
people living as refugees or lacking a form of housing that supports their social and economic
needs. Compared to the general population, homeless people experience high rates of physical
and mental health outcomes. This calls for a spirited fight against homelessness through the
formulation of viable and potential policies that can aid in solving this global menace. Many
humanitarian agencies have been at the forefront of fighting homelessness. In the United States,
homelessness is one of the most compelling social and economic problems. Several policies have
been put in place by the government to deal with this menace. However, many of these policies
