Write a paper that explains the special considerations you would take when writing about a public figure to avoid libel. How might litigation impact public opinion of the public figure?
The requirements below must be met for your paper to be accepted and graded:
- Write between 750 – 1,250 words (approximately 3 – 5 pages) using Microsoft Word in APA style, see example below.
- Use font size 12 and 1” margins.
- Include cover page and reference page.
- At least 80% of your paper must be original content/writing.
- No more than 20% of your content/information may come from references.
- Use at least three references from outside the course material, one reference must be from EBSCOhost. Text book, lectures, and other materials in the course may be used, but are not counted toward the three reference requirement.
- Cite all reference material (data, dates, graphs, quotes, paraphrased words, values, etc.) in the paper and list on a reference page in APA style.
References must come from sources such as, scholarly journals found in EBSCOhost, CNN, online newspapers such as, The Wall Street Journal, government websites, etc. Sources such as, Wikis, Yahoo Answers, eHow, blogs, etc. are not acceptable for academic writing.

With the growth in social websites, there are great risks that come with the. Whenever
a person posts something on the social media account or whenever they share their thoughts
and opinions, it is important to understand that there are pitfalls that they might come across.
This paper looks at the special considerations that should be in the mind of every writer
whether for commercial purposes or any other purpose. There are some laws that one is
supposed to understand whenever making any claim using writing.
Avoiding libel
When writing about a public figure, one should consider several things. The most
important thing is avoiding libel suits and cases of defamation which have become common
in the recent past. This is due to the upsurge in writing brought about by blogs as well as
social media. It is therefore important to understand libel and know what it is to write
following the guided areas. there is need also to ensure you check your work for rebel or have
it proofread by a lawyer before publishing to avoid such instances. Having a libel review
helps protect the writer as well as the employer from libel litigations which might be a risk to
both the writer and the employer (Long, 2016). One thing is important therefore to
understand the considerations that one would take to avoid libel whenever witting about a
public figure. It is also important to understand the gravity of such litigations especially
regarding public opinions whenever such cases appear.
One important thing to consider is the source of any information regarding the public
figure. It is necessary to check the sources in an in-depth manner to confirm that they are peer
review and are verified. These sources need only to have the fact about the public figure. One

information. In the matter of litigations, some sources might disappear or are deleted since
they do not want to be involved in the scenario. For that reason, one must be ready to
