What Steve Jobs Did with the First iPod Prototype’ by Henry Jay, 2 March, 2016. “Steve Jobs announced the first iPod as a Mac-compactible product with 5GB hard drive that put 1,000 songs in your pocket. But before the event, something happened behind closed doors between Steve Jobs and Apple’s Engineers who produced the iPod. When engineers working on the very first iPod completed the prototype, they presented their work to Steve Jobs for his approval. Jobs played with the device, scrutinized it, weighed it in his hands, and promptly rejected it. It was too big. The engineers explained that they had to reinvent inventing to create the iPod and that it was simply impossible to make it any smaller. Jobs was quiet for a moment. Finally, he stood, walked over to an aquarium, and dropped the iPod in the tank. After it touched bottom, bubbles floated to the top. “Those are air bubbles,” he snapped. “That means there’s space in there. Make it smaller.” And that was how the tiny size of the first versions of iPod came into existence. All thanks to the Genius Steve Jobs.” Questions: On the basis of the given abstract, your research, knowledge and experience answer the following in the Question and Answer format with minimum of 250 words. Question 1
Steve Jobs was a transformational leader who was driven to creating something different from its
competitors. He was creative, visionary, passionate, and figured out the customer’s needs. As a
leader, he invented something better than others and made complicated things simple. The idea
of having a device that could hold 1,000 songs was something never thought of by the
competitors. As a result, an innovation of the device made the company create a unique product
that others could learn later. His vision helped to pull the technical team to work together
whenever he had a new innovative idea for the company. Just like himself, he wanted the team to
be creative and innovative for the success of Apple (Inc Johnson et al., 2012).
Question 2
The following factors have been identified to bring critical success in the performance of the
I. Services- overtime, iPod has been integrated and synchronized with, computers. This
innovation has facilitated the smooth transfer of files from computers to instantly iPod, and one
can listen on the move.
ii. Interface- the system was initially designed with a wheel and click buttons with the
hierarchical listing of songs, with no backlighting for buttons. The iPod has restricted its services
to music only, and it does not allow for additional features that will get in the way of music. This
has made it dominate that area due to specialization.
iii. Quality- the quality of services for iPods has increased with the development of iTunes
Stores. This integration with computers was an ingenious idea that availed a vast choice for users
who may have to clear some space in the 5 GB device as it got full. The ability to browse the
store and the songs are significant innovations (iPod touch. nd).

iv. The new products are another way that the iPod has continued to innovate. The modern
