Introduction
This paper discusses a legal/ethical issue in Comcast Company. Legal/ethical issues keep arising
in companies, and they should be handled with a lot of carefulness to maintain a healthy business
culture. Such concerns have been hindering the progress of many companies and some reporting
low returns. The ethical issue discussed in this paper is net neutrality, which is considered to be
very critical in today's digital society. Its violation contributes to business losses and social
disintegration since people have adopted the internet as a means of socialization. To
comprehensively discuss the current legal and ethical issue, Comcast Company has been used as
an example all through the discussion. This paper focuses on the description of the business
situation, analyzes ethical concerns, relevant areas of law, recommendations, and finally,
conclusion.
Description of business situation
Comcast is one of the biggest corporations dealing with broadcasting, and it's also a cable
television business that offers various services in the United States. Due to a lack of competition
in the market, Comcast has been criticized for violating the net neutrality practices. The cable
providers are not many who offer excellent services, and this could be the reason as to why
Comcast monopolizes the market with some other few companies. The company is said to be
very powerful in negotiating terms; hence there is a possibility of breaching some of the
conditions leading to manipulation of connection speeds.
More than 80% of new subscribers have no option but to use Comcast simply because it is not
the best but dominates the market. Generally, the local cable service is monopolized by every

company that enters into such business only because it so lucrative and involves a lot of
technicalities. In a free market that lacks capitalism, companies like Comcast could just provide
networks at high speed. Other than providing customers with high speed all the time, the cable
companies have been spending less to ensure the same is achieved. For instance, Comcast has
been on the limelight for spending the lowest share in the maintenance of cables, including
buying new equipment such as set-up boxes and modems. This has been a critical challenge
across the business and individuals, depending on cables (Hiltzik, 2013). Across the world, the
internet has been vital in enhancing communication and e-commerce. With the kind of monopoly
experienced with cable companies, the internet has not been highly relied on. Businesses have
been forced to have some things done manually. It is hard to see a business operating entirely
while relying on the internet. Manual work is inevitable since no one can tamper with, especially
from the external forces.
Cable communications is a venture that provides voice, video, internet, and triple-play services.
Comcast being in this business is relied on by many consumers in the provision of high-speed
internet as well as the creation of the right platforms for content creation and communication.
The corporation also provides television, which helps views to stream live while at home and
designated places. More importantly, it is the internet which is another area where Comcast has
invested in heavily. The company offers an extreme 505 internet tier, among many other
packages. Lower-income families can get connected at low charges. The company has different
segments, including sports management, entertainment, and venture capital management.
Generally, communication business means a lot to the society. People depend on few
corporations licensed to operate. Not many ventures in such kind of business of the dynamism

there off. In case there is a monopolistic kind of business in certain situations, it is upon the
company to offer essential services effectively or ruin the image since it the only one everyone
depends on. This means that it is a good venture but, at the same time with a lot of dynamics.
Being lucrative, some businesses maintain a particular class of people and somehow may neglect
the other group (Locker & Kaczmarek, 2009).
Analysis of ethical concerns
Technological advancement has greatly influenced the way businesses operate. This has led to
telecommuting, and the concept of globalization has come to reality. The i...
