immeasurable havoc in the region. In the aftermath, there was increased criticism over the
manner in which the government responded. The disaster showed that inadequate government
response and preparedness could lead to even more deaths and injuries. The Hurricane triggered
one of the largest evacuation processes in the US, mainly involving people leaving New Orleans
and Southeast Louisiana. Many people remained in the city because they could not afford to
leave since they did not have the necessary financing or means. The government did little to help
