Leadership is an important aspect of nursing and healthcare. As leaders, nurses work with
other healthcare practitioners in promoting change and ensuring that they offer quality services
to their clients. Nursing leadership also promotes the implementation of policies that promote
development in different aspects of the nursing profession.
Style of Leadership Based on Assessment Tool
Based on the leadership self-assessment, my style of leadership involves working in
teams. This type of leadership is associated with leading by example and focusing on creating an
environment that supports teamwork. Team leaders encourage other employees or team members
to contribute their ideas or inputs in the work as a way of achieving the set goals. As a team
leader, I also work towards strengthening my bond with my team members to promote
collaboration.
Theory
These leadership qualities align with the transformational leadership theory.
Transformational leaders work towards identifying the changes that need to be implemented and
engaging other employees in implementing the needed changes. This kind of leadership
distinguishes itself from the rest through its commitment to change and the greater good. It
entails involving followers or team members in activities that are related to personal and
organizational goals. Unlike other forms of leadership that only focus on the organizational
goals, this theory views personal development and incorporation of followers’ ideologies as an
effective way of promoting the quality of the results. Leaders and followers set aside their

differences and personal interests and work towards achieving the common goal in the group
(Khan, Nawaz, & Khan, 2016; Ghasabeh & Provitera, 2017).
Transformational leadership promotes the treatment of subordinate employees as
individuals and identifying the different contributions that they can make towards the overall
goal. Transformational leadership theory promotes the treatment of workers as equals, while at
the same time exuding an authoritative control on the overall decision-making of the
