Guidelines for Paper Outline

1.Abstract - An overview of the paper topic, importance of the topic etc. Begin your abstract with "The purpose of this discussion is to..."

2.Targeted topics - Sample paper subheadings, major areas to be covered in your paper. Use bullets to help separate each subheading.

3.Selected references - cite at least three at this point (but will need to cite more in final paper)

4.Expected conclusions - what you expect at this point, recognizing that your final conclusions may be different; expect to discuss the difference(s) in your final paper.

Annotated Bibliography: Postgraduate papers should be scholarly works. As such, a good bibliography is essential. The papers and other references you choose says much about the effort that went into the paper. Annotation is the process of writing a one or two sentence summary of the paper to be used. As you will see below, you should have approximately 15 good references, 10 of which are from peer reviewed journals within the last five years for your final paper. I do not accept Wikipedia as a reliable or competent source of information for academic papers. USE OF WIKIPEDIA WILL RESULT IN A REDUCTION OF A LETTER GRADE IN YOUR PAPER!!!! You will find that this process of annotation will help gel your thought process as you work on your final paper.

Final Paper: One paper due by the end of the course. The topic must be related to the Case Study and be pre-approved by the professor as noted above for Paper Outline. You should have approximately 10 professional references, most from peer-reviewed journals (no trade journal/sales articles; web sites considered individually based on strength of source and editorial policy); try to keep within last 5 years. Please see Assignment section for guidelines and grading criteria for this paper. Papers must be submitted by the week 13 deadline to be considered for full grade. A 20% penalty applies for papers submitted within one week late of the deadline. Failure to submit a paper will result in an "F" for the semester.

Grammar is important. Professionals are expected to be able to communicate well with other professionals. **Please note that although grammar will not be graded in the weekly Discussion Boards, it will be graded in your paper outline, annotated bibliography and final paper. The University provides grammar assistance if you need it. Please take advantage of that service.

*Please also note that the professors serve not only as educators but also as facilitators. As such we direct you to resources and provide feedback. However, it is critically important that you also read all your classmates' postings. You will learn much from their efforts and analysis of data. And once again, the week's steward is expected to help facilitate discussion.

Written Examination: No written exam is anticipated as a mandatory component of the course.
