An extended family is composed of both non-immediate and immediate family members. These
include grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and blood related close relatives. This family set up
captures a community aspect in addition to the family unit. The sharing of resources is the main
factor that dictates an extended family context. Here family members share time, money, and
essential commodities (Furstenberg, 1987). The extended family members contribute to
nurturing children, thus creating a healthy and supportive environment that fosters all-rounded
