Based on task analysis, Sugar Squared Inc. requires an enterprise system that it can use to run
and manage its sales, financial, supply chain and e-commerce functions. This need necessitates
for an enterprise system composed of the following modules: Human resources, online sales,
financial management, sales order processing, silo management, customer relationship
management, product lifecycle management and supply chain management. A robust enterprise
system configuration that synchronizes these entire modules is required. In this case, it is an
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Since the revenues are ballooning, it is only a
matter of time before the organization starts expanding. Expansion dictates that the
organizational business functions such as staff, customers and inventory, be managed from a
centralized and integrated system (Karsak, & Özogul, 2009). ERP is a suitable system in such
circumstances. Additionally, being a supply chain business ERP system will assist in keeping
track of all the moving parts of the manufacturing and distribution channels.
Why use ERP?
Improved Inventory Monitoring. As Sugar Squared Inc. grows and expands, tracking and
monitoring its escalating inventory levels are bound to be a challenge. An ERP system uses
barcoding, RFID tags and serial numbers to check on inventory levels at all phases in the
distribution channels (Karsak, & Özogul, 2009). These three tools will assist Sugar Squared Inc.
to monitor inventory levels at the silos, inventory on transit and inventory on shelves ready for
sale to end-users. This amplified silo visibility enhances the loading, shipping and offloading
