history of the United States. He fought for black economic sovereignty, black power, and black
self-protection. The idea of racial integration through civil rights movements without any form
of violence was unrealistic to him particularly for people of color. His volatile rhetoric stirred up
fear and several criticisms which led him to be labeled as one of the most revered social and
