Egoism and Criminal Justice Practitioners week 3 discussion 1

just need to tell the good and bad of the post  list references apa style

Our text,, Williams, C. R., & Arriago, B. A. (2012). Ethics, crime, and criminal justice (2nd ed.). Upper Saddle, NJ: Pearson Education, Inc.

The required text book for this class defines psychological egoism as “a descriptive argument holding that human beings are, by nature always motivated by self-interest; that all people, all of the time, act so as to promote (what they think are) their own interests” (Arrigo 2012).  The book Ethics, Crime, and Criminal Justice also defines ethical egoism as “a related prescriptive argument concerning self-interest ….. Which holds that we should act from self-interest that our moral behavior should be our own rationally derived interests” (Arrigo 2012).  Egoism appears in all types of environment especially in the criminal justice fields. First off it applies to police officers in ways that deal with individual discretion and as a police officer. Officers are effected by bias and though we hope they never act upon those biases it never the less will affect their work. Egoism is capable of effecting district attorney for prosecuting crimes. For example they offer up deals in which the morality of the deal is questioned however it ultimately falls on the prosecutor. Like when you try a case differently to gain attention for your career. Lastly the defense attorney now it may seem that no one is ever innocent when they get arrested for a crime but still there needs to be a defense attorney who holds the other side accountable on policy and trial rules. I would say egoism has great potential on effecting the outcome on some cases, ore than others. I believe it rests on the deference opinion of the defendant.
