Introduction
Thomas Nagel is a philosophy professor at New York University and a philosopher of
American descent who focuses on the aspects of mind philosophy, ethics, and political
philosophy. Nagel’s thesis entails his argument that a single “point of view” connects every
experience that is subjective making it impossible for any conscious experiences to get seen as
“objective”. He further argues that because bats are mammals just like humans, they should also
get assumed to have a conscious experience. The thesis by Nagel equates the human mind to that
of a bat’s when it comes to the aspect of conscious experience. This paper aims to look into
Nagel's mind philosophy view provided in his thesis and whether is justified by critically
addressing the issues that he raises in his point of view.
