Climate Change
The climate of a place is connected to the system determined by wind, rain, temperatures, sun,
snow, deserts, and everything people do. Climate change can be described as
something [1]beyond the average climates that a particular place receives. However, there is a
strong relationship between climate change and global warming. Global warming drives climate
change. In 1895, Svante Arrhenius kicked up 100 years of comprehensive research to create a
sophisticated understanding of how human activities enhance the production of carbon dioxide.
This greenhouse gas contributes to the increase in global temperatures (Change, IPCC Climate,
2014, pp10). Melting of glaciers, rising water levels, sea storms, more prolonged droughts, a
challenge to the growth of crops, loss of water suppliers, changes in plants and animal habitat,
and many more make greenhouse effect a problem. This synthesis essay presents the facts of
climate change not limited to evidence, causes, and effects.
Evidence of Climate Change
According to a report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, there is no doubt in the
scientific evidence of global warming. NASA article 'Climate Change: How Do We
Know?' tracks how the earth's climate has responded to greenhouse gas levels to provide
concrete evidence of climate change. Current evidence reveals that the rate at which global
warming is occurring is ten times faster than it happened during an ice age. The evidence of
climate change is compelled by a number of factors;
Firstly, ice sheets in the Antarctic and Greenland have shrunk. Evidence provided by NASA'S
gravity recovery and climate experiment shows that the reduction of the ice sheet has increased
by three times. Greenland ice sheet and Antarctica ice sheets lost 286 billion and 127 billion tons
of ice, respectively in between 1993 and 2016. There is evidence of glacial retreat in
many [2]mountain caps in the world. The most evident is in Mt. Kilimanjaro Tanzania. Other
mountains that display disappearing snowcaps are the Rockies, Alaska, and the Himalayas.
Again, satellite observations have recorded a massive reduction of snow cover in the last five
decades, especially in the Northern Hemisphere. Sea level has been on the rise. Recording in the
Republic of Maldives, for instance, has shown that the sea level has risen by about 8 inches in
the last century. The same trend has been increasing every year. This is caused by melting
glaciers, snowcaps, and increased downfall.
Moreover, the NASA visualization of Arctic sea ice 2012 has shown that the recording is at its
lowest. The extent and thickness of Arctic ice have declined very fast in the last two decades.
Lastly, extreme events such as ocean acidification, intense rainfall, and extremely high
temperatures have sealed the box. NASA has recorded the fewest low-temperature events and the
highest number of high-temperature events since 1950. Ultimate downfalls in the United States
have also complemented this. The acidity of oceans has increased by about 30 percent since the
set of the Industrial Revolution. This has been widely caused by emitted carbon dioxide recorded
to increase by about 2 billion tons per year.
