Stephanie Ericsson explains how she discovered how telling the truth all the time was
challenging, and how this would have significant repercussions.

In the history of the United States and across the world, many people find it hard to
respond to simple questions when asked by members of their family, as well as their
close friends.

The same way telling the truth could have some impacts, telling lie could also have
serious consequences that would not only affect the person lied to, but the person telling
the lie as well.

When none comes up as a liar in a relationship, it could cause mistrust and one of the
partners could overthink most of the time.

Consequently, Stephanie describes lies as cultural cancer that interferes with the reality of
things until immoral habits become easily acceptable.

Further, Ericsson is of the idea that society has embraced lies that it no longer recognizes
the same anymore.

In “The Ways We Lie”, Ericsson defines several types of lies. Those lies include white
lie, appearance, failing to acknowledge plain facts, glance, breach, disposition, illusion,
stereotypes, and clichés.

Firstly, Ericsson says that a white lie takes place when an individual "assumes that the
truth will cause more damage than a simple, harmless untruth.

The person decides it’s more bearable to tell the lie than the truth after they perceive how
the outcome might turn out

Besides, many agree that lies become advance when they are told to disadvantage the
other party. Neutral lies represent those that if telling the truth in the first place would not
have had any significance.

Lies while engaging in games and social activities are acceptable in many cultures. In
conclusion, lying in itself is a detrimental poison.

Lying destroys the individuals the lies are told. Many people quickly believe a lie as
compared to the truth.

The many lies people are telling are turning into a belief system. When one becomes
surrounded by many liars, they stop believing in everything else.

The act of lying is anti-human and one does not only degrade themselves but as well as
those around them.

Therefore, society would become a better place if people told more truth and fewer lies.
