Flat web design

Flat design is a simple, two-dimensional, User Interface design genre that is widely
applicable in graphical user interfaces for websites and applications. This provides a user
interface that is efficient, streamlined, and easy to read since it offers a two dimensional, flat,
image without the use of stylistic abilities such as gradients and shadows. The advancement in
technology necessitates the inclusivity of the consumer’s needs in decision making during
design, (Web-designer Depot, 2018). This enables the creation of software applications and
websites with ease of user’s ability to navigate through, read and understand the content, and be
able to create feedback for communication between the users and service suppliers.
The earliest application of flat web design was during the 1950s after the introduction and
growth of modern art and international typographical styles. For example, the Zune mp3 player
owned by Microsoft widely featured a simple flat user interface with a simple and clean
typography, minimal flat icons, and monochromatic colors. The applications of flat web design
have advanced over decades enabling Microsoft’s release of windows phone and Windows 8
which featured simple design and a flat grid. The need for flat design applications revolutionized
how technology was adopting its user-friendly abilities to the level of incorporating the flat web
design into the operating system, (Studio, 2016). This has transformed the internet world
globally by allowing the creation of more software applications and websites that use flat web
design for the creation of simple and understandable User Interfaces.
The key element of flat design is a simple graphical user interface that provides the user
with minimal interactions to fulfill the site’s functionalities. This allows efficient visual feedback
about the effects of every action and allows the simultaneous display of multiple programs. The

use of a flat design graphical user interface eases the use and learning of computers since the
user requires no prior programming knowledge.
USER INTERFACE KITS
User Interface kits are a perfect way to start a flat design project such as a flat design
website. The User Interface kit comprises of a collection of graphical layered files and resources
that equip the designers with tools to building user interfaces for their applications. This desires
the use of simple language and the visual ability for ease in user interactions such as widgets,
checkboxes, think buttons, navigation buttons, and progress bars, (Bruns, 2019). This avails
more responsive options for the user to use in case of any queries and needs for additional
features in the webpages or applications.
According to Bruns, (2019), the User Interface Kit gears towards making everything a
user may require available. The users of all applications and websites desire efficiency in time
response to their actions. This plays a big role in the need for having easy accessibility abilities.
The user interface kit incorporates the use of shortcuts, tabs, and hover tool-tips that simplifies
the designed interface to its users. The use of toolbar options such as help, contact, and support
allows the users to have contacting options for assistance with any challenges in the use of the
webpage or applications.
According to Studio, (2016), the use of a good User Interface Kit enables the users of the
applications and webpages to have feedback on all their actions. Human interaction with
computers requires a basic language for communication. When feedback is availed more users
adapt to the technology since they can easily relate and use the service. The use of User Interface
Kits saves time and mental effort during the designing work of a flat design website.

The graphical user interface enables users to appreciate and interact with computers and
their applications through icons and audio indictors such as text navigations, command labels,
and primary notations, (Bruns, 2019). This makes the controlling of machines and computers
easy since enough feedback is created that allow communication between the users and
technology being applied by the users. The quality of User Interface Kit allows the user to
FLAT ICONS
Flat design icons are also an important tool in the designing of flat web design for they
enable the visual ability of users. This comes with a wide range of applications with the icons
displaying pictorial images of the icon’s function. Users are able to identify easily what they
need by selecting icons that maintain user efficiency of applications and webpages. Flat icons
use scalable vector graphics to enable infinite scalability which makes the icons to be appealing
at any size. This saves on space and easy visual identification allowing the use of many icons in
a single webpage due to scalability abilities, (Fischer, 2019). The flat icons used are fully and
easily customizable enabling the changing of icon borders, color, size, gradient, and shadows.
The availability of these features ensures the design of flat icons is achievable through the use of
various innovations and preferences. Users have a broad appetite for preference in color and
background displays that pleases their mind’s perception of art and design which solved by the
icons being customizable.
According to Studio, (2016), the use of flat icons is a modern trend in the use of
iconography which is more flexible and uses minimal file spaces enabling the application of
many icons for various tasks. The performance level is high since only a single HTTP request
needs to be made to the server. The incorporation of high pixel-density also enables clarity in the
font characters that are vector oriented.

Flat icons can be graphically designed through graphical tools such as photo-shop and
downloading of flat icons packages which are used as templates. The majority of the flat icons
are designed in the specification and style of mobile device applications. This makes the
availability of flat icons on the internet allowing user selectivity that suits their needs. The use of
flat icons has revolutionized the mobile industry in the creation of icons for better user interfaces,
(Fischer, 2019). This mitigates language barriers and cultural differences that would affect the
appreciate-ability of technology and interactions with the applications of the technology.
WORD-PRESS THEMES
The word-press theme incorporates the collection of prototypes and style sheets that
dictate the display and appearance of word-press websites and webpages. They allow formatting
features that allow them to be managed, monitored, and updated from the word-press
administration dockets. The use of themes creates a platform that allows the transition from the
traditional designing methodologies to conforming to new unique attributes such as better prices
according to the target-niche, and availability of uniform content types that are applicable across
all industries, (Murolo, 2018). This offers the users with various layouts such as e-commerce
stores and personal blog pages that allow customization that does need complex coding and
inexperienced users find it easy to understand the webpage’s and application’s navigator
procedures.
According to Studio, (2016), word press has a great number of flat design themes that
you can use on your website. The availability of word-press pre-packaged themes enables users
to get their designs, uploading web pages, and running them without the barriers of writing
HTML and complex codes from scratch. Wordpress supports the idea of flat design being simple
which enables the delivery of advanced administration.

The word-press themes are applicable in multiple forums making them usable on
different websites. This saves on financial resources since a single theme is applicable to
multiple platforms mitigating the challenges that are caused by purchasing a single theme that
has restrictions in their functionality. The use of word-press themes offers free samples where
the users can repurpose and configure them to suit their own needs.
During the designing of big projects, word-press themes offer features such as several
homepages which are included in a single layout making the project’s design to be unique. This
is eased by usability attributes being made possible by the availability of short-codes that bypasses the use of whole procedures, (Murolo, 2018). Word-press themes possess different
functionalities that are adjustable to meet unique business needs that provide all necessary
service online without the need for coding. The use of word-press themes enables the use of
different plugins, power extensions, which increases the capacity of users.
The major use of flat design is its simple graphical user interface that provides the user
with user-friendly interactions to fulfill the functionalities of a computer to human interactions.
This necessitates the provision of feedback for every action and the running of simultaneous
programs through us of word-press themes. The use of a flat design graphical user interface eases
the learning of computers since the user needs no prior programming and coding knowledge,
(Studio, 2016).
Fundamentally, the use of flat design has advanced over the years enabling the release of
a windows phone, android applications, and operating systems windows software which feature
simple design for all user’s needs. The need for flat design applications allows the use of flat
icons technology which adopts user’s friendly abilities to the level of incorporating the flat web
design into the operating system of machines with icons providing accessibility.

Literature review
Various researchers have conducted an in-depth research on web design considering that
the rapid growth in technology has revolutionized most of its application avenues including the
changes and trends in Flat Web Design. This is enforced by the need for the creation of
authentically digital platforms that embrace digital outlooks that enable user-friendliness and
usability of the technology, (Burmistrov, 2018). The use of split-screen has become a new trend
for flat web design, where designers use features that enable a multipurpose platform which
offers the users greater experience and interaction. This technique allows users to have multiple
and separated activities with different separate messages displayed on their screen which allows
multitasking.
According to Han, (2019), the new trends in Flat web design require designers to
constantly research and find usable attributes that can be incorporated to enhance the web’s user
interface. The use of vibrant colors attracts the attention of users to intended elements being
displayed by the web page....
