Although there has been an increase in global efforts to increase the capacity of health
workers in terms of the development of practice guidelines and training, there still exist
challenges in reducing the gap that exists in ensuring the provision of quality care. For instance,
many factors hinder health workers from applying their knowledge to provide quality care to
patients. For instance, in supervision activities in developing countries are more focused on
auditing and reporting, as well as data collection (Manzi et al., 2017). However, few activities
focus on the improvement of care and performance. This makes the topic of mentoring and
coaching important since these activities can help bridge the existing gaps in the health systems.
The reason for choosing this topic is that coaching and mentoring are good tools for
enhancing the development of quality-oriented practices during care. For instance, mentorship
helps create a positive environment for learning and nurturing skills since the mentor encourages
