Benefits of Diversity in the Workplace
The need for a diverse workforce is one of the issues that are increasingly affecting
organization development in businesses, especially in human resource management departments.
Sometimes, creating diversity may seem like a legal duty but some of the business managers
might view it like an opportunity to incorporate different abilities, ideas and talents in the
workforce. This means that an employer must understand the complexity of diversity for them to
employ the concept effectively. Understanding an individual’s characteristics concerning their
diversity it takes acceptance and appreciation of different cultures, age, religion, political
ideologies, gender, ethnicities, race, and sexual orientation (Paludi, 2012). In this case, such
diversity cases include a cognitive approach that relates to problem-solving. Sometimes it is
inevitable to lack people from a diverse culture in many aspects of a company including
corporate leadership, production, and marketing. Unfortunately, accepting diversity has led to
unequal treatment which has increased discrimination. Instead of creating a level field for all the
potential employees to get a job opportunity or promotion, the minorities might get discriminated
against. This means that for diversity to be effective there must be a diversity of perspectives,
ideas, lifestyles, and brand and reputation. Nonetheless, if diversity is employed effectively it
leads to an increase in creativity, productivity, community relations, company reputation and a
wide range of skills.
Workforce diversity increases competitive advantage and productivity. It is the role of the
employers to offer solutions and problem-solving capacity by employing a diverse competent
workforce. This means that regardless of race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and religious
background the employee or employer could be professionally capable to process new ideas on
how to increase productivity. In the same case, diversity in the leadership within the organization
