Procter and Gamble is a multinational company started by two immigrants, Procter and
James Gamble with its headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company is listed on the New York
Stock Exchange market under the initials P&G (Nordqvist, 2020). it initially started as a
company dealing in soaps and candles. The company is currently dealing in a wide range of
products within different segments. The success of the company is attributed to the ability to
meet the consumers' expectations and in embarking on sustainability programs that are geared
towards protecting the environment and promoting the consumers' wellbeing (Stoyanova, 2017).
The company has been at the forefront in ensuring that its practices do not harm the consumers
who are their main stakeholders. This paper, therefore, analyses the P&G sustainability practices
by looking at how they have aided the in company in preventing environmental pollution and
improving the welfare of the communities in which they operate.
Background Information
P&G is focused on supplying branded consumer products to consumers on different parts
of the world. The products are divided into five different segments including famine and family
care, grooming, beauty, healthcare, fabric and home care. The company sells its products in
nearly 180 countries mainly through grocery stores, club stores and membership stores, among
others (Nordqvist, 2020). The company's expansion to international market started after they
acquired Thomas Hadley Co. This aided in their capability to produce new products facilitating
expansion into new foreign markets. Since its inception that has been performing well is one of
the leading company in consumer products in the world. In 2014, the company decided to reduce

its brands to just 70 or 80 (Lucà, 2016).This strategy was the companies bid to maintain its
competitiveness by focusing on a few brands to enhance their growth.
Background of P&G sustainability practice
Most business organizations have realized the benefit of integrating sustainability policies
in their operation strategies. The sustainability practice essentially touches on the effects of
business on the environment and society (Lucà, 2016). Therefore, a company has to ensure that it
has an impact on the above areas not just for the benefit of the society, but for the company's
success. P &G understands the stated benefit and has continued to operate on the principle that
the founders, William Procter and James Gamble built of seeking to better the consumers' lives.
Procter and Gamble's brands touch on the consumer's lives each day on a significant scale (Lucà,
