Mental illness is a significant health problem that has been prevalent in society and remains controversial in most health
facilities. The patients will mental illness are always perceived to be strange and frightening, which inhibits the level of health care.
Mental illness is one of the nursing problems that has always been undermined in the health care which put mental illness as one of the
most dangerous diseases in the society. The nurses always associate with witchcraft and demons, which makes the people always to
keep themselves at a distance. According to Carrara et al. (2019), people with mental illness are always discouraged from going to the
health facilities due to fear of discrimination, which tends to exacerbate mental health problems, which can affect the chances of
recovery. The nurses are also among the people who have a negative attitude towards mental illness, which makes the problem
becoming very demanding.
The stigma associated with mental illness is a fundamental nursing problem that needs to be examined closely to promote the
quality of health care among psychiatric patients. Psychiatric patients do have a right to achieve patient satisfaction, just like other
human beings. It is vital to ensure the nurses appreciate the importance of positive perception of the mentally ill patients just like they
are in a position to take care of other diseases. The nurses require to learn on cognitive therapy as a measure of promoting evidencebased nursing in mental illness. The research will entail determining the best measures to take to reduce the stigma of mental illness.
