Performance management is an essential factor to consider for the success of any
organization or company. The importance of these exercises is that any information arising from
performance management aids a company to make decisions regarding the progress and history
of a company. Chand (2014) has mentioned that it is due to performance management that a
company can measure the effects of its decision. However, if an organization fails to effectively
conduct its performance management the risk of failing becomes high. Therefore, a company
needs to formulate excellent strategic measures to make sure the performance appraisal is free
from both unintentional and intentional distortion. In this case study, Demetri who is a
professional in the Expert Engineering company for more than ten years was promoted to a
Principal job position in the firm. Nonetheless, there was discontent and tension among other
principals in the company after Demetri became active in the hiring process of nine graduates
from the same university he graduated. Consequently, this paper will provide an extensive
analysis of intentional distortion factors and outline the interventions that the company should
take to improve its performance management.
