How Cooking Can Help Foster Children’s Rights
Children are among the most vulnerable members of society due to their helplessness and
their inability to make decisions on their own. Their vulnerability is augmented by their
dependence on adults and their young age. Ideally, due to their prominent position in the future
of the community, they must always be safeguarded from any actions that can jeopardize their
uprightness in later days. Young people form the building block of any society; hence utilizing
this opportunity to mold them into desired humans can significantly improve future
communities. On this note, involving them in productive activities can dramatically boost the
status of their future due to its impact on cognitive development (Liddell, Clark & Starkovich,
n.d). It can also help them channel their energy into the acquisition of crucial skills. In most
occurrences, youths tend to get involved in high-risk behaviors, making them susceptible to
harmful behaviors that send them into correctional centers. Cooking is one of the activities which
can develop participation and protection towards youth at risk in treatment centers, and I would
advocate its espousal to be incorporated in the centers’ activities.
The participation of children in distinct activities has a significant impact on their health
and well-being (Liao, Hwang, Liao, Granlund & Kang, 2019). The failure by parents or
guardians to take the responsibility of involving the young people in productive activities
increases their potential of being involved in delinquent behavior or having a developmental

children in distinct activities empowers them, molds their character, and makes them develop a
