Challenges Faced by Management in Technological Changes
Introduction
Technological change is an improvement in the efficiency of a process or a product and
results in increased production without increasing the input. An organization may improve or
invent a process or a product that, in return, brings a bigger reward for a similar amount of effort.
For example, the telephone has gone through a lot of technological changes over the years, and
in return, it has become more efficient. Products and processes such as phones undergo three
stages of technological change. The first stage is an invention, which entails creating a new
process or product. The second stage is innovation, which is the first time a device is used. The
third stage is diffusion, which means how fast other people start to embrace innovation.
Technological changes in the public sector are seen as a way of increasing the levels of
productivity. Senior levels in management are responsible for making decisions on the adoption
of technology on whether it is cost-effective or it is service augmenting. In the public sector,
challenges from a change in technology may come from the resistance by employees or the
structure of the organization (Husain & Kolesar, 2018).
Fear of the Unknown
In many public organizations, change is introduced without having enough info on what
and why organizations specialists from it to the implementers. It creates anxiety and fear for staff
who already have confidence in the current systems, relationships, and culture. When technology
