Identification of Concept
In nursing, caring as a concept is essential for daily practice. Nurses use caring when
reflecting on their roles in the healthcare environment as it pertains a deeper connection with the
patients. As proposed by Watson, the science of caring is paramount for the preservation,
enhancement and protection of health (Pajnkihar et al., 2017). The role of nurses in the
traditional sense was to look after patients following the orders given by the physicians. Jean
Watson noted that caring was a critical aspect that went beyond the standard procedure to a
connection with the patient during the care process (Pajnkihar et al., 2017). In nursing education,
caring is seen as an approach to learning and teaching during the teacher and student interactions
as a way of instilling human values. Therefore, the aspect of caring is promoted through the
creation of a conducive learning environment that helps students understand what is required of
them in their future practice.
In other professions, caring behavior is explained as an interaction with other human
beings with honesty and respect. Law enforcers are said to be caring when they show concern to
the public through the provision of services that lead to more safety and service access.
Psychologists are supposed to be caring when they give attention to their clients and help them
navigate through difficult times in their lives. Teachers also show a caring attitude to students
