Does marijuana have health benefits?

Problem

There exist different opinions about the medicinal benefits of marijuana. In a study to determine the benefits and risks of using
marijuana among adult Americans, Keyhani et al. (2018) studied about sixteen thousand, two hundred and eight individuals. The
study established that about 17 % of adult Americans believe that marijuana use has no benefits, while 81% believe that it has at
least one benefit. 14.6% of the participants reported that they had used marijuana in the past year. The most common benefits
of using marijuana were managing pains, treating diseases, and managing conditions such as depression and anxiety. The study
also established that 9 percent of adult Americans associate no risks with marijuana, while 91 % believe it has at least one risk.
Some of the risks that participants identified include impaired memory, addiction, and legal problems (Keyhani et al., 2018).

weight loss, and ability to improve lung capacity, depression treatment, prevention and regulation of diabetes, among others.
There are also those who oppose the idea of legalizing marijuana use. They argue that despite the health benefits that have so
far been discovered, the drug has the potential to cause more harm than good. Some experts have also linked the use of the drug
to conditions such as memory loss, ...
