In the modern business landscape, an organization’s chance of survival and growth lies
less with the amount of information that an entity has at its disposal. On the contrary,
organizations have to depend more on their capacity to absorb new information as quickly as
possible and put the newly acquired knowledge into practical use (Blanc, 2019). Considering that
the future is unpredictable, the only guarantee for an entity’s long-term survival lies in its
adaptability to new information and modes of operation. The conduciveness of an organizational
setup for learning and the alignment of interventions to the entity's goals are vital indicators of a
body that is heading in the right direction. Discourse on the essence of learning has grown
tremendously in public spaces, and this phenomenon has implored me to recollect my short-term
experience while working at KFC to determine where the organization stands and what could be
done to improve its learning culture.
How the Learning Environment is Supported
Organizational culture is a fundamental element when it comes to shaping the learning
environment within an institution. Knowledge is instrumental in enabling employees to adapt to
changes in their workplace, and the broader market, while simultaneously allowing organizations
to match up to the changing demands of their customers. So significant is the paramountcy of
learning that researchers have deemed it a mandatory element for the survival and success of any
entity (Serrat, 2017). It is on the background of extensive research in this field that managers and
other stakeholders have to critically evaluate the measures that their organizations have put in
place to facilitate greater ease of learning. Upon reflecting on my short stint at KFC in Riyadh, I
can identify several mechanisms that the food chain put in place in an attempt to embed a
learning culture in the organization.
