Should the U.S. Constitution include the Equal Rights Amendment?
The U.S. Constitution has accommodated different forms of amendments that have been
implemented to assist American citizens. One of the essential amendments in the U.S
Constitution is the Equal Rights Amendment. Mainly, the Equal Rights Amendment was
proposed by the Constitution to guarantee equal legal rights to the citizens regardless of sex
(White, 2019). In that regard, the issue of the Equal Rights Amendment has been subjected to
different debates where some people support it, and others oppose its implementation. Therefore,
this paper focuses on both the pros and cons of implementing the Equal Rights Amendment, as
recommended in the U.S. Constitution.
Some people support the implementation of the Equal Rights Amendment for several
reasons. The first reason in supporting this Amendment is that it would provide equal rights to
both men and women. Therefore, the identification of a person as a male or female would benefit
from legal rights and protections by the Constitution once the ratification of the Equal Rights
Amendment is successful. Secondly, the implementation of Equal Rights Amendment would do
away with laws that allow gender discrimination (White, 2019). Therefore, cases of gender
