Orientalism is a way of seeing that visualizes, emphasizes, exaggerates, misrepresents,
and distorts differences between people of the East and their cultures as compared to the people
of the West and their cultures (Said, 1994). In his book, Orientalism, Edward Said develops
ideas of orientalism. He demonstrates how the West has over the time seen, viewed, described,
talked about and represented the culture of the East (Asia and Arab cultures) in an
extraordinarily partial and biased way as compared to the culture of the West (the US and UK)
(Said, 1994). According to Said, orientalism involves seeing the Middle Eastern culture as
backward, exotic, barbaric, uncivilized, and at times dangerous. According to Said, orientalism
