Question 1: Facts About Burlington VT
The city of Burlington is the most densely populated in the state of Vermont,
housing approximately 42,400 individuals in 2015 (Data USA, 2020). On the contrary, the
population statistics made Burlington the least populous city in the U.S. Burlington lies
adjacent to Lake Champlin, west to the Adirondack Mountains, and east of Green Mountains.
The city was established through the charter of New Hampshire in 1763 and named after one
family, Burling’s, who owned most of the land. Most settlements began in 1773, with
businesses like sawmills and shipping acting as pioneers (Shields, 2013). Further, Burlington
was used as a military post, as it once hosted an exchange between the British army and land
troops. As the 20th century progressed, Burlington’s economy gradually moved from
manufacturing to including service industries like tourism. However, production was still a
significant component of the city’s economy, with companies dealing with products like
foodservice equipment, and maple syrup, naming a few.
