Introduction
China has emerged to be a strong economic superpower, especially after the successful
1978 reforms. This has made China rise to be one of the great economies in the world especially
due to its manufacturing prowess. America has been an economic superpower that has a long
history of reforms that can be traced to the post-civil war period. Additionally, both economies
run under different forms of governance. China is still mainly considered a communist economy
while the US is a capitalist economy. As such, there is a need to compare and contrast these
economies to determine the effect of capitalism and democracy, how the economies have been
positively influenced by the internet, the perception of capitalism in the US and Chinese
economies relative to political agencies, and the existence of a link between presence of various
personal freedoms and economic growth.

Globally, the Chinese economy is ranked as the largest economy followed by the United
States (Willige, 2016). This is according to the purchasing power parity (PPP) comparison. The
US is the largest contributor to the global gross domestic product but using PPP there is a
consideration for the extent to which money can be used to purchase goods and services
(Willige, 2016). Based on this fact, China takes the lead since money can purchase more in the
country.
