Description

This assignment will be based on scientific literature identified by the student related to this documentation. For this assignment, students will write a three-page essay on climate change; the essay will consist of three parts:

A)Background– One page introduction to climate change highlighting causes and evidence of changes in our climate, this should focus on ice/glacier melting. Students Should use at least 3 scientific papers published in peer reviewed journals to provide context to this. In this paragraph students can choose to highlight the debate on whether anthropogenically caused climate change is real, pointing out arguments for both sides and then critically express their view.

B) Regional impacts/consequences of climate change (1.5pages)-Choose region(Regions may include (but is not restricted to any state of the USA (North/SouthCarolina, Virginia, Florida, Georgia or internationally Arctic/Antarctic Ice sheets,Syria,...)to discuss global climate change related impacts to either society or biodiversity. Impact must be contextualized with at least one scientific literature(peer reviewed scientific journal article)

C)Solutions (half page)–discuss your view on potential solutions to global warming using scientific reasoning principles, and critically discuss the feasibility of implementing strategies pointed out?

Climate Change Scientific Reasoning

Background
Climate change is no longer a scientific curiosity issue but a current environmental
overriding issue that is facing the regulators. It is a developing crisis with health, safety, and
security, food security, among other dimensions. Although the effects of climate change hit all
the countries, the developing ones are the worst hit, for instance, Florida (Ahlstrøm et al., 2018).
Among the notable effects of climate change is the high temperature, rising in the sea levels, and
frequent weather-related disasters such as floods, which disrupts agriculture and water supply.
Therefore, to tackle this challenge, there is a need for mitigation measures to handle that which
can be avoided and adaptation mechanisms to control that which cannot be avoided. There is
alarming evidence that climate change is leading to irreversible changes in the ecosystem and the
climate on the planet. For instance, the mountain glaciers are in worrisome retreats, and this has
led to a shortage in the water supply.
Currently, there has been an endless debate on the causes of climate change. In this, there
are those of the view that anthropogenically caused climate change dominates. They argue that
human activities such as a change in land use, use of fossil fuels, use of electricity among others
are the primary sources greenhouse gases which causes global warming and as a result climate is
affected negatively (See figure 1 below). This is...
