From 1867 to 1914, several developments occurred in American society that fueled the
changes in foreign policy. There are several topics in American history during this period that led
to the changes, and the first is the growth of the American industry. With the advancement of the
industrial and agricultural outputs, the need for an external market was inevitable, and it was in
light of this that the business owners felt the need for foreign markets (Raico, 2020). There was
an apparent need for the expansion of the American economy, and the argument was that with
more extension, it would act as a trigger for the production of more goods and services. This
would surpass the capacity of the domestics market and, therefore, the international markets like
china was a vital element for economic posterity. The U.S. industry called for cheap materials of
production, and this underscored in the minds of most people the need to have an expansionist
foreign policy. The second topic of concern to the changes in the foreign policy was the
establishment of control in the western hemisphere. The U.S. as the significant territorial power
in the west, it wanted to have control of the west and not interfere with Europe and advised
Europe to stay aware of the western powers. As a result of this, the U.S. fought colonial wars that
delivered Cuba from the Spanish. The American foreign policy was that of neutrality and not to
meddle in the affairs of other nations, but as a result of sympathy with the Cuban people,
America went to intervene for Cuba in armed combat against Spain (Lumen, 2020). The
