Disadvantages of Bioremediation
Bioremediation is a technique of clearing pollutants from ecosystems using biological
means. Microbes are used to metabolize pollutants such as oil, industrial dyes and others that are
usually hard to clean using other methods. Bioremediation has the advantages of being organic,
and therefore the organisms can be reproduced when they are needed for sustainability (Singh &
Gupta, 2016). However, technology has disadvantages that limit their applications in many cases.
Among the disadvantages of bioremediation is that the methods only work for
biodegradable compounds. Biodegradable compounds are those that can be metabolized by
biological means. However, some compounds cannot be degraded wholly and quickly using
