how to solve 6 7/7 - 2 21/5 for homework assignment
Jul 29th, 2014

6 7/7 – 2 21/5  multiply the whole number by the denominator

49/7 – 31/5  Find a common denominator (35) and cross multiply to make each have the same denominator

245/35 – 217/35  This was accomplished by multiplying 49 by 5 for the numerator in the first, and 31 by 7 for the numerator in the second.

245/35 – 217/35 = 28/35  subtract. The answer needs to be reduced. 7 will go into each, so divide both the numerator and the denominator by 7 to simplify.

4/5 is the answer. SO:

6 7/7 – 2 21/5 = 4/5
